MKPUSA WTF: The US Leader body: Cancel Culture and the Oops, Ouch, Whoa

The MKP Multicultural Initiative (MCI) began in 2001. Almost immediately, the leader body voted 22-20 to make the multicultural training a requirement for certification and re-certification. In so doing, a small group of certified leaders took hold of the MCI and utilized it to create a way of culling the herd within their leadership and peer group.

From the original “issues and Isms,” this clique of leaders “certified” themselves to both teach and collect income from the training. After three or four evolutions of this MCI initiative they had fine-tuned it to where they own the process which is what they wanted in the first place.

The issue was there were so many different philosophies of multicultural work that people sought to interrupt the work by adding more in to processes and changing words.  The process got mixed by perspective so that people were teaching, learning, and operating from different definitions, intentions, and desired outcomes. While the original intention was to honor a man clearly understanding who he is in relationship to another, other people were utilizing the tools to shame and blame each other based on simple trickster games.

An example of the trickster game was the standard response from the 70s "I have a lot of black friends" or something very basic. Some of our leaders, some of whom invested $15k to $30k into becoming a leader by attending training after training, leader training, mentorship, training the community, community "not now", etcetera, etcetera.

By 2005 or 2007 the focus in the leader body was around specifically black/white racism and that showed up in their leader body certifications.  If a man tripped over a multicultural question, he was given a “not now” and practically shamed out of the brethren, rarely stepping back up for recertification.

The leaders, as they often do, thought themselves to be professional curriculum artists and devised a racism training and "invited” men to attend to “own your racism or else”.

Some of those leaders came out saying it was the best training they ever experienced but eventually they realized that it invoked trauma on both sides of that black/white multicultural variable. And many of those leaders left the work after years of dedication to this mission. Men, GOOD MEN, stopped leading weekends.

The impact of this focus would eventually show up beyond leader recertification and into weekend leadership. These bastardized multicultural concepts were now being taught in the communities on all of the leadership (LT) trainings, even after the leader trainers were encouraged to focus on concepts rather than “isms” in these trainings.

A friend noted to me:

This is from the Context Presentation of the NWTA:

More recently, we have seen the rise of a dominating and destroying Shadow Warrior. Today, our world can no longer tolerate this Shadow Warrior way, damaging ourselves, our families, and our planet; destroying cultures and killing each other. Transformation to the New Warrior has begun.

A group within the US leader body has become the Patriarchy that the NWTA was created to transform. They are now deeply controlled by a dominating and destroying shadow warrior. If they were true to the New Warrior core values, they would cease and desist from their autocratic conduct. They clearly lost their way.

What I'm saying is that the leader body in the United States was fine-tuning and practicing “Cancel Culture” to maintain power and control well before it became a meme. They have now gone from “cancelling” fellow leaders to “cancelling” entire constituencies.

Next: The Do, Re, Mi of the Oops, Ouch, Whoa...

Editor's note: I want to reiterate That each one of these stories is in a sense exactly that: a story.  Unless a person has incredible imagination and can create alternative worlds, the stories usually have a grain of truth. I suppose if anyone takes my story personally, they might know of the grain of truth that they're reacting to.  Luckily within the intentional men's community most of what they know is that anything that comes out of another man's mouth is just projection on the first level therefore they are protected against even noticing that there is truth in the other man's statement. That has worked for us for 30 years in this community.   It allows us to closely guard our shadows and keep secrets.

  1. Saw the follow up piece briefly but it didn’t exist anymore when I went back to read it.

  2. Can you be specific in the men who are being referenced? Who are the men who form the clique? Who approved the process in USA? This is written as fact, and feels like a lot of judgment, or perhaps point-of-view (Couldn't help it on May the 4th). Please sign your name. Rational discourse and hearing the others perspectives and impacts is a huge piece of MC work. And our work as brothers. I cannot connect with you and work to our common ground if I do not know who you are. Chris Boser

    1. None of the processes we teach even imply a change of behavior, only projections and judgments...

If you and I were in a contracted discussion with guidelines, could we discuss this as story? A story where you could reflect what is true and not true (for you)? Can you imagine what that would look like? There are many UNHEARD in MKPUSA. Most don't have time or will to put into it. They have given up.

    2. In fact, Chris, which is more impactful? Seeing a brave person hide his/her name or plugging the person's name in so that you can reflect the words off of the judgments you may have of the man/woman you know? The data may be correct but the context and the story may flow much like the oral traditions of elders... If you have a story, blogging would be easy...
